Don’t give up on the Celtics just yet!

May 23, 2017 by Ellen Alden 2 Comments

Still believing in the Celtics…why not?

What else could be thrown at them at this point? What do they have to lose? They are underdogs against a giant of a team, and they lost their highest scoring player to a hip injury. Things couldn’t be worse.

But somehow, from under a great cloud of doom, players like Jonas Jerebko, Marcus Smart, Kelly Olynyk, Gerald Greene and Jaylen Brown have emerged to help strengthen this team even as the media have basically moved on to the NBA finals. Their starting players, Amir Johnson, Avery Bradley, Jae Crowder, Al Horford, and Marcus Smart are playing with passion, aggression and gritty competitiveness. And let’s not forget the head coach of this team, Brad Stevens. He is unflappable and brilliant; quietly choreographing plays that confuse and surprise teams (even great ones). With a coaching staff like the Celtics have in their house, no wonder the lights have not been dimmed for good just yet.

Is there another driving force that propels the Celtics? One that cannot be seen or heard, but seems to unquestionably exist? Yes, and I believe it is with Chyna Thomas. The spirit of Isaiah’s sister seems to have created a strong energy surge within this team, strengthening their resolve, bonding them together and giving them even more passion and fight. Look what Chyna’s spirit did to Isaiah in game 2 of the Wizards series! It was the day of Chyna’s 23rd birthday and It seemed like she was there guiding him across the court, lifting her brother to the basket, helping him score an amazing 53 points. But now that Isaiah is out of the series recovering from his hip injury, Chyna’s spirit and energy seems to have drifted along to the other Celtics players and that spirit, along with the passion already instilled in them, is making for a strong threat to any team—even the Cavaliers.

So what will happen in the next few games? I don’t know but I believe we will see a united team who plays with heart and passion. They won’t give up even though many have compared this fight to David and Goliath—and we all know how that turned out! Good luck to the Celtics in their fight for the Eastern Conference championship. You’ve had an extraordinary season and you’ve made Boston fans very proud.

I’m still believing in you…
