Book Ellen for an author talk:

Ellen is a natural speaker who loves to entertain audiences with the fortunate discovery of her great, great grandfather’s Civil War letters. Ellen has spoken at dozens of events including universities, museums, libraries, Irish festivals and private organizations.  An Irish history enthusiast and Civil War fan, Ellen animatedly speaks about the experiences that her Irish Immigrant ancestors endured during these extraordinary time periods in history.

Ellen’s presentation/author talk includes…

* A display of the scanned Civil War letters, tintype photos and historical documents.

* A power point presentation with the discovery of the letters, the research, travel, genealogy, writing, editing and final product of the historical novel.

* A reading of excerpts from the letters by Irish natives, put to Irish music, with rolling Civil War images.

* A portrayal of historical time periods and events–Potato Famine, Irish Immigration, Civil War and exploitation of the Draft law.

*At some events Ellen will have an Acapella singer who will perform the song “Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears.”

Testimonial:

“Ellen Alden’s multi-media presentation, at our library, on her book, Yours Faithfully, Florence Burke, was totally engaging and fascinating! The discovery of her great, great grandfather’s letters opened a window into the past and led Ellen to change the course of her life. While her passion for her subject is based in the fact that she is writing about her own family’s history, her enthusiasm is contagious and draws the listener in. There actually are two exciting dramas — the detective work of Ellen’s determined pursuit of Florence Burke’s story and, then, Florence Burke’s compelling depiction of life as a Civil War soldier. Both are tales with unexpected twists and turns, which Ellen tells with energy and authenticity, certain to  entertain any audience!”

-Patricia Rogers, Director, Abbot Public Library, Marblehead, MA

“We hosted author Ellen Alden last Saturday for her “Yours, Faithfully” presentation. Ellen’s presentation was informative, entertaining, and a fascinating glimpse into Civil War socioeconomic history. She brought the artifacts of her story with her, which was a great addition to her presentation. The audience was thrilled to have the opportunity to view the letters from Florence to Ellen, as well as the tintype photographs, and the box which she discovered the letters in. Ellen is easy to work with, very friendly, and brings her own tech support (her husband Mike). She asks for a small honorarium but is also willing to work with your branch’s budget. Her presentation is great if you are looking for a presentation on Irish Immigrants, Civil War History, or just a love story! Feel free to reach out to me if you want any more information about her, or contact her directly at ellenalden@verizon.net.”
